About Padma Doree
- Nature: A collaborative textile initiative combining Eri (Ahimsa) Silk of Northeast India with the Chanderi weaving tradition of Madhya Pradesh.
- Nodal Agency: North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation under the Ministry of DoNER.

Core Objectives
1. Fibre-to-Fabric Integration
- Creates a seamless value chain by blending the thermal, durable properties of Eri silk with the lightweight elegance and motifs of Chanderi fabric.
2. Sustainability Promotion
- Promotes Eri silk, also known as Ahimsa silk, as it is produced without killing the silkworm.
- Positions it as a premium eco-friendly textile in global markets.
Additional Information
The development and commercialisation of Ahimsa silk are credited to Kusuma Rajaiah, a government officer from Andhra Pradesh, India, who holds the patent and trademark for this innovation. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence, Rajaiah drew upon over four decades of experience in sericulture to pioneer a silk production method that aligns with the principles of ahimsa, ensuring that the silkworm is not harmed in the process.
